Board Briefs 2-27-24

Nearly an hour of comment from parents, students and coaches urged the Board of Education to “show up” and identify the funding for an expansion at Canyon View High School.

The expansion was one of the projects on the narrowly defeated 2023 bond. Parents, coaches and students — present to recognize a state champion girls wrestling team and drill team — spoke openly in the public comment portion of the meeting about the challenges the school has faced with a small weight room and shared wrestling room/dance room. They spoke of injuries, wasted time rolling and unrolling mats and late night practices to accommodate all who use the limited space.

Superintendent Dr. Lance Hatch said district administrators have been looking at options since the Nov. 21 bond election. Two possibilities being considered are lease revenue bonds or a smaller bond proposal on November’s ballot. Hatch detailed two options.
