Board members at South Elementary

The Board of Education of Iron County School District during its work meeting Tuesday continued the discussion on a possible list of projects to place on the 2023 bond proposal.

Board President Ben Johnson said board members received multiple emails from the community about a proposal to move alternative education programs to the South Elementary building and construct a larger elementary school where there is growth.

As district administrators and board members have considered the 2023 bond, they’ve looked at three goals:

• Keep the debt service tax neutral. A bond under $71 million will not increase taxes.

• Address growth in the community by building an elementary school in a growing area; and

• Build or renovate a building to create a permanent location for alternative programs — Southwest Education Academy, Launch, Post High, etc.
